It is a fact: the decoration of the toilet is far too often neglected. However, this room plays an essential role in a house! Although its small size seems to limit the possibilities for layout, there are many ideas to transform this space and make it both aesthetic and practical.
Discover our tips and the best ideas for toilet decoration.
1. Choose the right color for your toilet
Toilets are often small rooms, and sometimes without windows, which can make the space dark or cramped. To create a welcoming atmosphere, it is important to choose the colors of the walls and furniture wisely.
Light and neutral colors. You can opt for soft shades like white, beige, or light gray, which bring brightness and a sense of space. For the furniture, these neutral tones allow you to choose any color or finish.
Pastel tones. Soft colors like pale blue, water green, or powder pink can brighten the space while maintaining a light atmosphere that you won’t tire of.
Strong and dark colors. Bold souls will certainly opt for this option. Whether it’s a shade of burgundy, midnight blue, or even straight-up black, these colors will create a cozy atmosphere with a strong personality.
My advice: I particularly enjoy using dark colors in toilet decoration. In addition to giving a cocooning dimension to the room, it also creates a certain dynamic and a wow effect.
2. Add texture with wall coverings
Interior decorators love to mix materials and patterns. Don’t hesitate to combine your colored paint with wallpaper or modern tiles to create an interesting visual dynamic. The decoration of your toilet will be all the more beautiful!
Wall tiles. This is a classic and effective solution. For a modern look, install it as a wainscoting, or to cover the support frame of your toilet.
Wallpaper. Increasingly used in toilets, wallpaper allows you to add a bold or refined pattern. If you pair it with wall paint to create an accent wall, for example, choose a pattern that incorporates the same color as the other walls, even if subtly.
Wall paneling. Long neglected, wall paneling is slowly making a comeback and comforts us with its warm appearance. It adds an interesting touch of verticality while still being very understated.
3. Choose clever layouts and storage
The limited space requires good organization. By opting for well-thought-out storage, you can maintain an orderly space without sacrificing the decoration of the toilet.
Wall shelves. Install shelves above the toilet to take advantage of vertical space. They are ideal for slipping in a few baskets or even some decorative items.
Compact furniture. In terms of storage, the ideal is a custom-made piece to perfectly optimize the space. Otherwise, you can opt for a unit with an integrated sink or a small wall cabinet that can serve as storage for cleaning products or toilet paper. If possible, prefer wall-mounted furniture to facilitate the maintenance of your toilet.
4. Add design accessories
To perfect the decoration of the toilet, add design accessories. This is the kind of detail that really makes all the difference.
First, there are essential elements like a mirror above the sink and a toilet paper holder. The same goes for the flush plate: prefer something quite understated, without frills. Also, think about choosing elements with finishes that match each other: black metal, chrome, gold brass.
And then, there are decorative accessories like a small green plant, a picture, or a rug to make the floor more pleasant. Don’t neglect these elements because even if they are very understated, they help refine the decoration of the toilet.
